The Department of Agriculture and Welfare is responsible for promoting sustainable agricultural development while improving the welfare and livelihoods of farmers and rural residents within Ikorodu North combining agricultural development with welfare-focused initiatives so farming households are supported in production, capacity building, and overall wellbeing.

1. Where We Are Now

The department currently provides extension services, input support and welfare-focused programmes to farmers and rural residents across Ikorodu North, working directly with smallholder and backyard farmers as well as larger agricultural operations.

  • Support for crop production, livestock development, and fisheries
  • Promotion of modern, climate-smart, and sustainable farming practices
  • Support for farmer associations and cooperative societies
  • Implementation of welfare-related agricultural intervention programmes
Agricultural Development Services
  • Farmer education, training, and capacity building programmes
  • Guidance on pest control, disease prevention, and farm management
  • Support for backyard, small-scale, and commercial farming initiatives
  • Advisory services on improved seedlings, livestock breeds, and best practices
  • Linkage to state and federal agricultural programmes and interventions
Farmer Welfare and Community Support
  • Support programmes targeted at smallholder and subsistence farmers
  • Facilitation of access to agricultural inputs and support resources
  • Empowerment initiatives for women and youth in agriculture
3. Where We Intend to Be

The department is working toward expanded extension coverage, more structured cooperative support, and stronger links to state and federal agricultural financing helping more Ikorodu North farmers move from subsistence to sustainable, income-generating agriculture.
