The Internal Audit Unit of Ikorodu North LCDA is a key control and oversight arm responsible for ensuring accountability, transparency, and efficiency in the management of public funds and resources an independent appraisal unit reporting directly to the Auditor-General for Local Governments and providing assurance to the Executive Chairman on the proper use of funds.

1. Where We Are Now

The unit currently conducts pre-payment audits, revenue monitoring, compliance checks and value-for-money reviews across every department, reporting findings and recommendations to council leadership and the Auditor-General for Local Governments.

Functions

• Expenditure Control verifies and certifies all payments, ensuring they are lawful, properly authorized, and within approved budgets
• Revenue Monitoring ensures proper collection, recording, and banking of all internally generated revenue
• Compliance Checks ensures adherence to financial regulations, government circulars, and internal control systems
• Verification of Assets & Stores monitors and inspects government assets, stores, and inventory to prevent misuse or loss
• Pre-payment Audit conducts checks before payments are made to prevent fraud and irregularities
• Value for Money Audit reviews projects, contracts, and expenditures to ensure efficiency, economy, and effectiveness
• Reporting prepares audit queries, reports, and recommendations for management, and submits periodic returns to the Auditor-General for Local Government

The unit is working toward more systematic audit trails and closer real-time monitoring of expenditure, so irregularities are caught earlier and public confidence in council financial management continues to grow.
