Educational Services – Ikorodu North LCDA

Building Minds, Shaping the Future

Education is the most powerful investment we can make in the future of Ikorodu North. Our educational services are designed to support children, youths and adults to learn, grow and succeed, while strengthening the social and economic fabric of our communities.

Although formal education is largely a state responsibility, Ikorodu North LCDA plays a crucial support and facilitation role—working with schools, communities, partners and government agencies to improve access to quality education and lifelong learning opportunities.

Our Focus Areas

1. Support to Basic and Senior Education

Ikorodu North LCDA works closely with relevant education authorities and school managements to:

  • Encourage enrolment, regular attendance and retention of children in school
  • Support school improvement initiatives such as:
  • Minor renovations and repairs (where possible)
  • Provision of basic learning materials (subject to available resources and partnerships)
  • Beautification and sanitation of school premises
  • Promote discipline, good values and academic excellence among pupils and students

By standing beside our schools, we help create a more conducive and inspiring learning environment.

2. Literacy and Lifelong Learning

Education does not end in the classroom. Through our educational services, we promote:

  • Adult and non‑formal education programmes (in collaboration with partners and agencies)
  • Literacy campaigns to help adults and out‑of‑school youths learn to read, write and do basic calculations
  • Encouragement of lifelong learning through:
  • Reading clubs
  • Community study and revision groups
  • Public enlightenment programmes on the value of education

Our goal is to ensure that no one is left behind, regardless of age or background.

3. Library and Reading Promotion

Where facilities are available, Ikorodu North LCDA supports:

  • Community or council library spaces for reading, study and research
  • Access to books and learning materials across different subjects and age groups
  • Reading promotion activities, such as:
  • Reading competitions
  • Storytelling sessions for children
  • “Read‑A‑Book” campaigns in schools and communities

We believe that a community that reads is a community that thinks, innovates and progresses.

4. Support for Youth Development and Career Guidance

Our educational services also look beyond the classroom to the future of our young people. Working with schools, youth groups and partners, we support:

  • Career talks and mentorship sessions in schools
  • Educational competitions (debates, quizzes, spelling bees, essay competitions) to sharpen skills and confidence
  • Introduction to ICT and digital literacy initiatives, where possible, to prepare young people for the modern world

These efforts help young people to dream bigger, plan better and make informed choices about their future.

5. Partnerships for Better Education

Ikorodu North LCDA actively seeks and welcomes partnerships that strengthen education, such as:

  • NGOs and foundations supporting school improvement and scholarships
  • Corporate organisations investing in ICT, libraries, educational materials and infrastructure as part of CSR
  • Community‑based organisations promoting literacy and youth development
  • Faith‑based organisations and traditional institutions encouraging education and positive values

Through partnerships, we can reach more schools, touch more lives and achieve greater impact than government alone.

Why Our Educational Services Matter

Strong educational services mean:

  • Better chances in life for children and youths from all backgrounds
  • More informed citizens who can participate actively in community and national development
  • Improved livelihoods as people gain skills, knowledge and confidence
  • Stronger, safer communities, because education reduces ignorance, crime and social vices

Every effort we make in education today is a seed planted for a brighter Ikorodu North tomorrow.

Our Commitment

Ikorodu North LCDA is committed to:

  • Supporting access to inclusive and equitable education for all children within our communities
  • Promoting reading, literacy and lifelong learning as a way of life
  • Working with schools, parents, partners and stakeholders to remove barriers to education
  • Continuously improving the quality and reach of our educational services, within the scope of our mandate and resources
