About the Education & Library Department

Education is the foundation of long‑term development. The Education and Library Department of Ikorodu North LCDA supports educational initiatives and promotes a culture of reading and lifelong learning within the community.

Although formal education is largely a state responsibility, this Department plays a vital supporting and connecting role to ensure that children, youths, and adults in Ikorodu North have better chances to learn and succeed.

What We Do

1. Support to Schools and Learning Centres

  • Collaborating with school authorities and relevant state agencies to support school improvement initiatives
  • Encouraging community participation in school development (PTAs, community projects, competitions)
  • Supporting campaigns on school enrolment, attendance, and retention

2. Promoting Literacy and Lifelong Learning

  • Encouraging adult literacy and non‑formal education programmes
  • Supporting reading campaigns, spelling bees, essay competitions, and educational events
  • Facilitating access to educational materials where possible

3. Library and Information Services

  • Establishing and supporting community or Council library facilities where available
  • Providing safe, quiet spaces for reading and study
  • Encouraging digital literacy and access to educational information

4. Partnerships for Education

  • Collaborating with NGOs, faith‑based organisations, corporate bodies, and community groups to support education initiatives
  • Encouraging investments in scholarships, school materials, and educational infrastructure
